Version 2.0 and 4.40 manual issues

Version 2.0 and 4.40 manual issues

2008-09-13 by Richard

Anyone here have a version higher than 2.0 of the s1000 manual? Akai
released Firmware versions all the way up to 4.40 with lots of changes
and features but I have never seen a manual that explaines any of
these changes or features. Also I have the 4.40 Eproms if anyone needs
some, maybe trade for a 4.40 manual?.?.

That's interesting due to the fact that the HD version has a more
updated manual. I don't think Akai released OS updates without
addendium updates.

Hi !

I buyed my 1st S-1000 new and got all the updates by my tech service during time.
Most of these updates were just bugfixes, rarely new features.
Most new features came w/ the addendum 2.0
v4.3 and 4.4 were adding compatibility and fixes to the S-3000 series sample format only AFAIR.
Some "features" and fixes were related to the expansion boards, IB-104 p.ex.
These features are described in the manuals of these boards.

I cannot explain more, sorry ! AFAIK, I own all the manuals for S-1000 and S-1100

I miss the service manual for S-1100 ...

Anyone out thre who has a copy ???

I may have the s1100 service man I will look for you, have you ever
had any luck with the bank loading feature via SCSI HD or zip disc?
The bank loading feature is susposed to load the desired bank from
the HD OR zip based on messages from a outboard sequencer.
Anyone use this feature and can share good or bad function?

Also how do I save changes to the Midi setup so each time I boot up I
don't have to manually re-set them? Is this part of saving the system
back to disc? This maybe a strange question but I have always had the
s1000KB and never needed to do this, now I am using the rack and
every time I boot it up my sequencer can't see it so I have to
manually set the Midi CH.

Hi Rich!

Would be excellent if you have a S-1100 ( !!! ) service manual for me !
I have 1 S-1100 here which makes no sound, but all the circuit boards work (by test routuines), memory, converters, FX, it loads samples from disks and SCSI, the display works and you can edit parameters, it get´s midi,- just crazy.
So, I assume there´s something wrong w/ the digital mainboard on the bottom and it´s not a standard fault.
But no measuring without the SM possible.
I have some schematics but need the service manual.

So, if you really have a service manual for the S-1100,- how can I get it ???

The MIDI setup:

It´s not global !

If you´ve made a program w/ samples or several programs, have set the midi RX channels for the programs, outputs of the programs and/or single samples of a program, levels, pan and so on, - you have to save this "volume" ( all what the memory actually contains)- to a harddrive, a removeable drive or to several floppy-disks in a sequencial order (Don´t forget to name the disks and number ´em in the order you save if you need more than 1 floppy disk).

If you load this former saved volume from a harddrive (or floppy disks in the same order),- all the adjustments mentioned above are re-loaded as they were saved before including each midi RX channel for each program in this volume.

Load a volume by midi prg change no.:

This is not load while play and it works (only ?) w/ harddisks,- never tried it w/ removable drives media ( zip or Syquest).
It doesn´t work w/ floppys !
Use old harddrives, no ultra SCSI or such. Best is a 520MB harddrive max.
I use 1GB harddrives formattet to 500MB devided in 40MB partitions to store a 32MB volume in a 40MB partition.

You have to go to the main disk page
choose the "volume" you want to load from the harddrive
Press F3
in the display you see an area called "vol load number",- type in the midi prg.-ch. No. which shall load this "volume" later ...
Press F7 now.

In play mode, the sampler loads the desired volume if it receives THIS midi prg.-ch.-no. as a"vol load number".

Important:

You have to make sure, the "vol load number" (= midi prg.-ch. No.) is not identical w/ any programs PROGRAM- Number of the volume to load. !!! ( a volume can contain several programs and these are numbered too !)

So, if you have maybe 10 programs ( numbered 1-10) w/ related samples in a volume of max. 32MB , use any other number higher than 10 as a "vol load number" to load this volume by midi.

If you want to load several volumes, one by one, during a period of time ( length of a song p.ex.), you have to prepare all the volumes used in a song or performance.
Arrange all the volumes on the same harddrive, select the volumes and enter a midi-prg.-change number as "volume load number" for all the volumes as described above and make sure to choose numbers, the related programs in a volume aren´t numbered with itselfs !!!

This must work !
