Analogue-sequencer

Well I've had my P3 a couple of days now and it is, of course, a
fantastic instrument. I realise I'm preaching to the converted here,
but it's a good point so worth making again I feel. Anyway, I'm
beginning to get a grip on things but I've get a couple of what I
suspect are stupid newbie questions;

1) When I'm playing a keyboard using MIDI thru on the P3 it seems to
apply the current FTS settings - is there anyway of overriding that
for the 'thru' notes other than applying the FTS changes to the part
and then turning it off? 

2) I may be misunderstanding quite how the architecture of
patterns,playlists, parts track etc. works but I can't seem to get
'part copy' to work properly - I can do a 'copy all' from Part 1 to
Part 2 - however when I make changes to a pattern in Part 2 these
changes are also made in Part 1.
