> sweet! i'm running winME and it works absolutely fine here. It works under ME ! ... that great. Thank goodness someone ignored my assumption and gave it a go. I'll change the user notes at some point to say as such. Grrrr ... out of date already ;-) > i have a single pair of midi connectors coming from my PC, with the > rest of my setup linked through a Roland a-880 midi-patchbay, in > which P3-b is chained after P3-a. is some sort of user-bit or > identification-bit added to the .SP3 files so the 2 P3's are > recognized as different machines even though they're connected to the > same physical port? or would i just need to make sure that only the > P3 i'm wanting to address is in SysEx receive-mode while the other > one isn't? i'm guessing the second option is the correct one, but i'm > hoping for the first..;-) i have no way to test it at the moment > though as one of my 2 is temporarily taking a short vacation. At the moment, the SP3 file does not contain any information that identifies that the data is associated with a particular P3. The P3 Name is not stored in the file, nor are the midi port numbers. You can save data from your P3-a today, and next week you could send it to P3-a or P3-b. I have left it entirely up to the user to manage that. Just like a .SYX file, you could email me one of your .SP3 files and I could load it into P3Tools here and send it to my P3. I have to admit, I had imagined that people with multiple P3's would have them arranged so that they were connected to the PC on seperate midi ports. I don't know why I did; I just did. I guess you have it set up like that so P3-a clocks P3-b. As such, you are right that only the P3 you want to address must be in SYS EX Receive Mode at that time. Therefore you have probably realised that for your set-up, you actually only have to "define" one P3 in P3Tools with the one set of PC midi ports. BUT keep your two definitions for now. This has given me some ideas which I will think about over the next week or so. I may end up putting the P3 Name in the file after all so that I can .... Actually I'll keep it to myself for the moment until I have thought it through ;-) > > and...erm...i believe i warned you about the feature & update > requests before, didn't i? well here's the first one: me being a die- > hard keyboard shortcut user i'd love to see shortcut keys for the > functions, mainly for the "Name" function. although it's already cool > that it's possible to edit a name with a double click as well as via > the drop-down menu. I'm a keyboard man myself, so keyboard launched copy/paste/naming is bound to happen soon !!! Cheers Dave
