Analogue-sequencer

A fully digital mixer, or an analogue mixer with digital I/O ?

...it'd be a hard job to do anything cheaper the DIY route.

Me neither. I took computing at university, and taught myself electronics
later.
For the foreseeable future, my time will be occupied with sequencer stuff.
I don't know if there are any forums or mailing lists for mixer DIY, but you
could ask over at Synth-DIY - you might find interested people there.
