No, when tie is set on a P3 step, the note on that step will not be released until after the new note on the next step plays. If the next step is a different note, the two notes will be overlapped, legato. Using the multiple keys in gate mode to enable ties would mean you could no longer do this. Maybe I'll think of some shortcut for tieing notes though - it can be a bit awkward to have to cycle through skip and X, when you just want to switch back and forth between gate and tie selection.
