Regarding Ties

Regarding Ties

2005-08-11 by djparislee

I own a Future Retro 777

in it's sequencer in order to tie notes...you hold down the first and last notes and it ties
them...most of the time I'll put it as the same note...but sometimes it's really cool when
radically different notes are tied together

My current understanding of the P3 is that Ties can only occur while the same note is
selected over multiple steps...is there a way to just have the P3 tie notes no matter if the
notes are different...also...could an option be incorporated where you can tie notes (i.e.
the future retro method) from the Gate Mode rather than having to go into tie mode to
access it...i get a bit confused by the different colors in tie mode

...sorry if this has been discussed before...i just joined last week :)

No, when tie is set on a P3 step, the note on that step will not be released
until after the new note on the next step plays.
If the next step is a different note, the two notes will be overlapped,
legato.
(This can be used to enable a 303 type glide, if you have a CV convertor
that works sensibly)
If the next step is the same note, the note is just held.

The way P3 works, you can turn on more than one sequence step at a time, by
pressing down multiple keys at the same time.
Using the multiple keys in gate mode to enable ties would mean you could no
longer do this.
Maybe I'll think of some shortcut for tieing notes though - it can be a bit
awkward to have to cycle through skip and X, when you just want to switch
back and forth between gate and tie selection.
