You need to assign one of the auxes to the event 'set midi channel'. Enter pattern edit mode, then hold FUNC and press the STEP MODE key. This will take you to aux mode, with the AUX LED below the UPPER MODE key lit, and the A (GATE) LED above the STEP MODE key lit. To assign the event, hold FUNC and press STEP MODE again. When you're already in aux mode, this brings up the aux assign menu. Use the DATA knob to select the 'set midi channel' event. You may need to press PAGE to switch from CC numbers to events. Press enter (F1) to confirm the event selection. Now you can activate the event on each step using the step keys, and set the midi channel to be assigned to that step using the upper knobs. The lower knobs will edit the notes, as always. If you want to switch back to edit GATE with the step keys, just press UPPER MODE once - this will leave AUX edit. And remember the shortcut to aux editing is FUNC+STEP MODE, or you can just press UPPER MODE a few times until it advances to AUX.
