i currently also use a Doepfer Drehbank to gain full control (via sysex) over an Akai S5000. I notice what you mean by overloading bandwidth.....it's not the most efficient manner for REALTIME applications (but programming is fine).

It's possible that the mixer option may be extended to allow other CCs to be
assigned to the knobs than volume and pan, but sysex strings would be very
unlikely to appear.
Sysex edit strings usually need several data bytes on top of the parameter
number and value, and there isn't much space left in RAM.
Plus I'm not too keen on sending multi-byte messages in a realtime stream,
it loads the bandwidth a bit too heavily.
