Midi controler

Midi controler

2005-07-16 by Koen Buytaert

Hello

I am using a nova with the P3.
I have created six different sequences on six different channels (so
using six different tracks) and i want them to play at the same time.
I would like to controle manually the volume of the six tracks so that
i can fade in and fade out some tracks whenever i want.
With the nova i can't do both at the same time because there is only
one knob.
Can i use the P3 as a controler while he is busy with the sequences?

Thanks

Thanks a lot Paul! My operation manual was v3.98 so i have to check
the group-files more often.

You sure can! I have a Nova too and find the P3's mixer function really
useful. Go to User Config to enable the mixer - then you'll find that
the knobs above the Part buttons can be used as a MIDI mixer and panner.
When each bank is loaded these are set to zero so you always have a
known base point. Once you pass zero they become active. The channels
are set automatically to correspond to your tracks - so the knob above
part 1 corresponds to the volume of track 1 etc. Give it a go!

All the best

Paul

CC MIDI & Sysex Messages from the P3

2005-10-24 by regimental1200

Rather than MIDI volume / panning, is it possible to assign other
control changes to the knobs while the sequencer is running without
affecting the sequence?

Would be particularly interested in sending programmable sysex
messages.

It's possible that the mixer option may be extended to allow other CCs to be
assigned to the knobs than volume and pan, but sysex strings would be very
unlikely to appear.
Sysex edit strings usually need several data bytes on top of the parameter
number and value, and there isn't much space left in RAM.
Plus I'm not too keen on sending multi-byte messages in a realtime stream,
it loads the bandwidth a bit too heavily.

i currently also use a Doepfer Drehbank to gain full control (via sysex) over an Akai S5000. I notice what you mean by overloading bandwidth.....it's not the most efficient manner for REALTIME applications (but programming is fine).
