Pin 15 and 16 are the backlight supply for the LCD module. With them shorted together thru 10R, you'd have been sinking 500mA, or 2.5 watts. The resistor's only rated for half a watt or so, so it's not surprising it burnt ! I cut off the wires for pins 15 and 16 on the cable to my module, and made sure they weren't touching. I'll add a note to the construction page to make this clear. At least it was within the limits of the voltage regulator, so there shouldn't be any permanent damage ! Cheers, Colin f
