I use my P3 with Ableton Live and sometimes Reason.

With Reason its less useful because Reason has to act as a midiclock 
slave. Even with the FUNC+RUN mode on the P3 its no good since Reason 
cannot be forced to start at a predetermined point in a song.

With Live I always run the P3 as a slave. Live handles clock sync 
intelligently and will only start sending START on any new bar. Live 
also has to pass the controller keyboard data into the P3 since the P3 
only has the one midi input. But this is easy to do in any sequencer 
especially Live.

I often will use the P3 as a source of pattern generation for loops that 
I can then further edit in Live. However, I also use the P3 as a midi 
generator in its own right with Live only providing beats and occasional 
chord progressions. If I then like what I am doing I will record the 
midi data into Live for pasting into a track.
