It sounds like you could be running a beta version of 3.1.006 from before
the addition of the new event group selection.
In older builds, all events were accessed using the DATA knob, with the PAGE
key toggling between events and CCs.
The newer version is a lot quicker to use, so it might be worth a quick
upgrade, if you have some way to play a MIDI file to your P3.
