The easiest way is to use the sculpt command.  Just get to page 7 in pattern edit (hold down 
page, then hit step 7), and hold down the function key under sculpt note.  As the sequencer 
runs, each step's note value will  be overwritten with whatever value is encoded by the data 
knob.  Its a cool way to make new basslines if you tweak the data knob as you hold it down.
