Quick way to set all the notes to the same value

Quick way to set all the notes to the same value

2007-02-25 by skylab001

Hi-
Hopefully somebody knows this----I thought I read this in the manual but can't find it
now. I'm looking for a quick way to set every note value of the 16 steps available to the same
note, ie. 16 steps of C4 on track 1, or 16 steps of E#3 on track 2. Rather than twisting each
knob to the same value. Is there a way to do this?

Thanks
Brian

The easiest way is to use the sculpt command. Just get to page 7 in pattern edit (hold down
page, then hit step 7), and hold down the function key under sculpt note. As the sequencer
runs, each step's note value will be overwritten with whatever value is encoded by the data
knob. Its a cool way to make new basslines if you tweak the data knob as you hold it down.

A great way to create unusual riffs is to use the sculpt option to set
your pitches, note lengths, velocities and aux values. Rather than
merely holding down the function key and turning the knob, try turning
the knob whilst rapidly tapping patterns on the function key. I was
doing this yesterday to set the filter balance on an Access Virus so it
did these wild leaps from one filter to another in a way that smooth
knob operation wouldn't achieve.

Using the "tap" softkey to enter initial 'gate on' events is another
good way to do stuff that doesn't sound like it's been hammered in using
familiar hand positions on a keyboard. Try setting up an aux to grab
notes from another track then use sculpt to set what which track you are
grabbing from. Doing this, closing yours eyes and listening to the
results is another cool way to get something you might not "compose".
