Updated beta

2007-05-29 by Colin Fraser

There's an updated v4 beta in the usual place...
http://www.sequentix.com/v4beta.htm

This one fixes a few bugs, including random direction weirdness.
And it adds a 'bar loop' section to patterns.
The pattern edit pages are re-ordered too, like this:

1: tbase, direction, last step
2: shift, shf
3: clr, copy, paste

4: bars, arm
5: GbH, bcopy, hold

6: pattern config
7: sculpt
8: randomize note
9: randomize upper

PAGE + the appropriate step number takes you straight to each page, as in
v3.

To recap the changes in edit mode for any new beta users, the tbase and
direction soft-keys now work in conjunction with the step keys to select
values directly. e.g. tbase 16 is on step key 5, so hold 'tbase' (F1) and
press 5.
All the other functions work as they did in v3.

Pages 4 and 5 are 'bar edit', where the LEDs show you the number of bars in
the pattern (usually GREEN), the current edit bar (RED) and the bar loop
section if you set one.
To change the number of bars in a pattern, on page 4, you hold 'bars' (F1),
and select the number required.
The length of the pattern will usually be shown with GREEN leds. The current
bar playing will flash, and the current bar selected for editing will be
RED.

In bar edit, the NOTE knobs set bar transpose and the UPPER knobs set bar
repeats.

The arm key on page 4 sets the track to restart the pattern at bar 1 on the
next gbar reset.

On page 5, the GbH key toggles 'gbar hold' for the current edit bar, i.e.
the one shown in RED.
Gbar hold will repeat a bar until the next gbar reset, at which point it
will advance to the next bar in the pattern.

You select the edit bar using the DATA knob, or just by pressing the step
key while in bar edit.

Bcopy is used to copy or swap the contents of bars in the pattern.
The source is always the current edit bar.
For example, if you have created a 1 bar pattern, and you want to make it
into a 2 bar pattern, where the second bar is just a subtle variation on the
first, go to bar edit (PAGE + 4), hold 'bars' and press step 2 to set the
length to 2 bars.
Bar 1 should be red, showing it's the current edit bar.
Go to page 5, hold 'bcopy' then press step 2.
The contents of bar 1 will be copied to bar 2.
Then you can use the DATA knob or step key 2 to select bar 2 for editing,
and go back to page 1 to return to pattern edit on that bar.
If you wanted to swap the contents of bars 1 and 2, you would use FUNC +
bcopy.

Bar loops are set in bar edit mode using FUNC and the step keys.
Say you have a 4 bar pattern, and you want to loop bars 3 and 4.
From page 4 or 5, you would hold FUNC, then press step 3, then step 3, then
release FUNC.
The LEDs will show bars 1 and 2 in AMBER, indicating they are outside the
loop section.
When a pattern with a loop section plays, it will play from the start when
P3 is first started, a new part is selected, or the track is reset by an
'arm'.
When the last bar in the loop section has played, the pattern returns to the
first bar in the loop.
So in the example above, the bars would play 1, 2, 3, 4, 3, 4, 3, 4...

If you hold FUNC and press a single step key, you will set only the last bar
in the loop point.

I think I should probably start writing a v4 manual...
