> Hey everyone... I just finished up building an original > (preproduction?) case P3 for one of the members of this group, That case is the 'Maddox layout'. The 'original' P3 case was a black desktop case sold by Maplin. Only four P3s were produced by myself in that case, such as this one... http://www.sequentix.com/gallery/p3-3.JPG Note the lack of mode keys and LEDs, and data knob - the earliest units were all retrofitted with those later. Only one original case survives unmodified, though non-functional. Later pre-production units used a very similar Hammond case, like this... http://www.sequentix.com/gallery/p3-056-2.jpg The Maddox layout (so called because Paul Maddox came up with it) used a different Hammond case, which is narrower but deeper - hence the relocation of the display and keypad. The main advantage of that case was that it came with wooden end cheeks ;-) I built a couple of those as special orders, and a few other cases in that style were made by Steve Thomas, when he was doing his DIY CNC work. I don't really get on with that layout as the buttons are not where I expect. I built a number of pre-production P3s using Schaeffer panels in 19" rack mount form, such as this one... http://www.sequentix.com/build/old/images/p3-rack.jpg A few tweaks later, I ended up with this design... http://www.sequentix.com/gallery/p3-069.jpg ...which didn't change much before going into production. There were also a couple of other variations, such as Gert's Big One... http://www.sequentix.com/gallery/gbo.jpg Check out the standard PLED display on that one for an idea of scale. And the super-compact 'hand-baggage' P3... http://www.sequentix.com/gallery/p3-62.jpg Is this what they mean by a 'case history' ?
