Jeff, it could also be the way you have the THRU set on the P3. It can
either rechannelize the MIDI coming in to all channels (this is the
way I normally use mine, eg channel 1 on controller will
record/control all channels on P3), or it can maintain the channel set
in the source (Channel 1 on source will only record to a Channel 1 set
P3 track).
Sounds like you'd like the latter, not the former.

Not in front of my P3 at the moment, so don't know the exact setting.
