Audio rules in these programs now - probably how most users like it. And 
you can't do stable audio sync to MIDI clock, although I seemed to 
manage fine on earlier versions of Cubase.

Yeah, it was dropped at the time of Cubase SX (around the time I stopped 
using the program entirely actually).

The best way I've found unless you want to use Cubase VST etc. is to let 
the P3 be MIDI clock slave. I've done this successfully with Ableton, 
Reaper etc. and it works just fine.
