Looks to me from the datasheet like that part is much the same as the ones I use. The backlight LEDs need a drive current rather than a voltage, but that is achieved by putting a series resistor in the supply. You may need to calculate the right resistor value for the LEDs used. The parts I supply need 30mA, and have a voltage drop of about 3.5v, so I use a 47 ohm resistor. The datasheet for your part gives a typical current of 40mA through the LEDs at 3.5v drop, so you may want to use a slightly smaller resistor.
