Sorry if this has been spec'd before....i'm sure it has. I've been searching previous messages and am having trouble finding actual specs of the replacement LCD people are using. I need my P3 ready to go this saturday! so need to find a LCD locally. I have the adapter board etc supplied by colin. I assume the lcd is a HD44780 type? and i know its 16x2 but can someone give me a datasheet etc so i can make sure i get one that fits physically and electronically? Thanks Brett

As far as 16x2 displays go, there are only three or four variations on the mounting point layout that I have seen, and anything non-HD44780 compatible is rare. The LCD display I supply for the P3 is an EA W162B-NLW Datasheet for the whole EA range is here: http://www.electronic-assembly.de/deu/pdf/doma/blueline-w.pdf You'll see they do a couple of different 16x2 form factors. Thanks heaps colin, i managed to find one locally in time for the weekend ;) --- In analogue-sequencer@yahoogroups.com, "Colin Fraser" <colin@...> wrote: > > As far as 16x2 displays go, there are only three or four variations on the > mounting point layout that I have seen, and anything non-HD44780 compatible

I managed to find a blue display (better then what i found yesterday) locally that seemed to fit the bill, it is a winstar WH1602A-TMI-JT Once i got it i realised it has a negative voltage generator onboard? I asked the guy i bought them off about it and he replied : "3V Power Supply means as the LCD generates Negative Voltage, it can also run in 3V power supply. You can use the 5.0V power supply follow the spec sheet as well. The only difference is to connect the backlight, instead of using pin 15 and 16, u have to connect A&K Pin to get the backlight as Pin 15 and 16 will perform as a negative voltage generator. All the others connections will remain the same." I'm a little confused here and was hoping someone might help, can i wire this the same as the standard display colin supplied? Can i do any damage to the P3 by using one of these? I have boring old green lcd's that will be fine but would love to use this blue one tonight if i can. thanks Brett --- In analogue-sequencer@yahoogroups.com, "bambam4236" <bamsyn@...> wrote: > > Thanks heaps colin, i managed to find one locally in time for the > weekend ;) > > --- In analogue-sequencer@yahoogroups.com, "Colin Fraser" <colin@> > wrote: > > > > As far as 16x2 displays go, there are only three or four variations > on the > > mounting point layout that I have seen, and anything non-HD44780 > compatible > > is rare. > > The LCD display I supply for the P3 is an EA W162B-NLW > > Datasheet for the whole EA range is here: > > http://www.electronic-assembly.de/deu/pdf/doma/blueline-w.pdf > > You'll see they do a couple of different 16x2 form factors. > > > > Best regards, > > Colin Fraser > > Sequentix Music Systems Ltd > > http://www.sequentix.com > > > > > > > > > -----Original Message----- > > > From: analogue-sequencer@yahoogroups.com > > > [mailto:analogue-sequencer@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of bambam4236 > > > Sent: 05 November 2008 01:03 > > > To: analogue-sequencer@yahoogroups.com > > > Subject: [analogue-sequencer] Specs for replacement LCD > > > needed urgently...Can't find anything definite. > > > > > > Sorry if this has been spec'd before....i'm sure it has. > > > > > > I've been searching previous messages and am having trouble finding > > > actual specs of the replacement LCD people are using. Looks to me from the datasheet like that part is much the same as the ones I use. The backlight LEDs need a drive current rather than a voltage, but that is achieved by putting a series resistor in the supply. You may need to calculate the right resistor value for the LEDs used. The parts I supply need 30mA, and have a voltage drop of about 3.5v, so I use a 47 ohm resistor. The datasheet for your part gives a typical current of 40mA through the LEDs at 3.5v drop, so you may want to use a slightly smaller resistor. Thanks Colin I found some info online about the negative voltage generator and read through the spec sheets some more and realised all i had to do to bypass the neg voltage generator was connect pins 15 & 16 from the P3 LCD connection to the A & K connectors that the lcd had on the side. I just cut the two pins on the LCD adapter for pins 15& 16 so they didnt connect to pins 15& 16 on the lcd and then ran some wires from the pins on the LCD adapter to the A & K pads....worked great ;) I'll post a pic of what i did in the group in case it might help some others.
