>>hello, here a video from yesterday evening. I am now working, as you can see, with 2 maq 16/3. but they are awfull to program for long interesting and ever changing sequences. so I am looking for a new step sequencer to add at my setup.<< blimey, you've changed the studio a bit since that guitar workout from '06! :-) agreed re the maq- they only work for longer compositions if you are constantly changing- the pitches. this is what they really lend themselves to- hands-on, with both hands! & playing through some sort of force-to-scale mechanism. we used to use special patches in a sampler, then custom tuning tables in the emu proteus modules, & now the p3 is used to process (& sometimes capture) the maq's output. the row lengths. we use an external midi controller to adjust the loop-point of each row. we don't alter the start point often, as it can get hard to remain syncopated. the timbres. use midi controllers & the maq itself to alter anything you can address by midi-CC. try chaining the rows together to make longer sequences. we have done this a few times, but I noticed that the maq will tend to crash if any row in a chain is in random mode... you could also set the two maqs up to interfere with each other. I have three of them- I really ought to try that next time two of them are in the same studio.... :-) but yes, you need to get a p3! it has the immediacy of the maq, if you set it up right (i.e. knob-grab events, keyboard input...) but the depth of... well.... actually I don't think there is another machine in hardware or software that achieves the same as the p3. duncan/r.m.i.
