Many Thanks. > Colin and Duncan, many thanks for your comments. I should first say two things 1. I am a novice to P3 and 2. I find that just copying a song is a really good way of learning a bit of kit, you dont get sidetracked by creative possibilities and you have something fixed to copy so you are forced into finding things out (for me anyway). Obviously just using the P3 as a standard sequencer is crazy, I have only just started playing with its performance potential and its amazing and more importantly fun. I basically bought the P3 because I remembered how much fun I had with my Roland 104 analogue sequencer and what a pain DAW's are in terms of workflow and fun. For that the P3 is absolutely brilliant. I take both of your comments about the p3 not being a linear sequencer, however I do feel that the V4 software is missing a vital component in being able to playlist parts. (Please remember I am a novice and this is my first impression). I do take on board that its not a linear sequencer and is more of a performance tool...however no matter how experimental your work you end up having to apply some structure to make it more accessible. I dont want to get into subjective arguments on experimental music (lets just say I bought my first synth because of cabaret voltaire, throbbing gristle and early human league)but unless you are doing totally free-form stuff like Eno ambient or Xenakis/Stockhausen/IRCAM stuff some structuring of the parts is required. I accept that this can be performance based but opnce you have worked out your performance as it where, you may want to free your hands to perform somewhere else...I've got a lovely analogue modular setup and even forgetting song structure I could do with some extra hands to do what I want to do sometimes. What I tend to do is play (perform) and then record and then play with something else. I accept that the way I put things together is just how I like to do it and is certainly not everybodys prefered methodology. It would just be nice if the P3 gave me the option to playlist parts rather than forcing me to do it manually. Maybe once I have played with the P3 a bit more I will change my mind. cheers
