My solution will not suit everyone by any means. But here goes... One of the great strengths of the P3, among many others, is its "rhythmic grip". In terms of a timing clock, I think it's nigh on unbeatable. So, I want to use it as my timing "centre of the universe". So I do. I relegated the DAW to purely audio multitrack duties. No midi. No clock sync.
