An 808 is easily modded, as is a 606 or 909. Purely digital machines may be
a little more complex.

The 808/606 have a pair of transistors on each instrument, to shift its
trigger pulse to the common accent level.
You can inject a variable voltage pulse of the right length via a diode just
after these transistors, and that will mix with the internal trigger so it
can still run from it's internal sequencer, but with full and independent
velocity control when triggering externally.
My 606 has a set of wires poking out the back, willing me to wire it up to
Cirklon.

Personally I think MIDI is the best solution for keyboard synths.
I share most of my MIDI busses between one mono- and one polyphonic synth.
With the monosynth on a lower numbered track, it gets timing priority, and
no more than 1ms delay.
That setup keeps me happy, and I am obsessively picky about timing.
With a local CV convertor or internal retrofit, I can send multiple 'CVs' to
a synth over one cable.

For synths like my Jupiter 8, MIDI is the only viable option.
CV/gate inputs would bypass the auto-tune, and that would be no use except
for jazz.
The JP has pretty poor internal latency anyway, more significant than the
MIDI delay.

If you're using soft-synths via USB, the USB port gives a 16x speed
improvement over serial MIDI.
I just need to enable a bit of code to move tracks assigned to USB outputs
forward in time to tune out the inevitable latency.
Not that I'd encourage anyone to use soft-synths.
But if you must... ;-)

There will be very soon.
I'll post here first when I'm going to put details on the web page.
Anyone who has mailed me in the past asking to pre-order/send money, etc.
will have a place kept in the queue if they wish.
