The master/slave issue for USB MIDI is a bit of a problem. There has to be a master device to enumerate the slave devices, and route MIDI streams between them. It would be great if there were some kind of smart USB MIDI hub with a few USB host ports, to which you could attach a number of slave devices. It'd be difficult to build a unit to do this for less than the cost of an EePC, unless it was something you connected to a PC to configure which would then just plug-and-play with the configured devices for later use stand-alone. A simple device would only be able to work with class-compliant devices too - otherwise you'd need enough OS to support proprietary drivers.
