another option would be to implement something like hook mode on the 
nord modular... you can select whether the (non-360 degree) pots will 
jump to the current value (jump) or have no effect until the current 
value is reached (hook).

i'm guessing the argument for the alpha dial is more of a *physical* 
interface issue... it's something that i would love to have, but i 
have the luxury of saying that because i don't own a P3 yet. heh.

but if it's really the hook functionality that's the issue, i think 
the nord modular's solution is a good one (i just wish the rest of my 
synths had that option).
