See, if I was a 'proper' musician with stuff worth saving, I wouldn't 
have had this problem. Seems everone else is doing much more 
worthy stuff than I  ;->)

I'll load the latest revision tonight and report back

Hey - this *is* beta software. And the P3 is already doing a hell of a 
lot more certainly than I thought it would do. You good :-)

Suddenly it all becomes clear...
I realised last night I forgot to update the memory wipe routine to
intialise the new sequence direction locations, and had a suspicion this
might have been the root of your problem.
If you had done a sysex dump and restore, the backward compatibility in the
sysex routines would have converted the old direction values to the new
locations, but just doing a wipe would leave unpredictable crap in the
direction aray, including values outside the range of 7 available
directions.
The current rev in the files section will wipe properly.
