thanks colin.
please keep me posted on any developments. i'll be watching the posts closer
from now on..
i do have access to parts if the whole kit is not available. i work for a
small company here in portland OR. Hamptone Electronics. specializing in
tube based products..I basicly solder and box kits. but the owner is great
about helping me find any parts i need..
we recently did a tube mic pre kit for tape op mag, and scott the owner is
working on a j-fet version.
kits are definantly a chore espescially if your supplier is unable to ship
you parts in a kit form...i spent hours and hours just counting all tyhe
resistors for each kit... any way i understand if you choose not to offer
the complete kit. how much is the pcb and parts list running. do you have
templates for the 2 housings?
thanks again collin.
what inspired your task??
talk soon

You shouldn't find any of the parts hard to source. They are mostly
standard 7400 series and 4000 series logic ICs, and a few common resistors
and caps. I'll post the bill of materials with part numbers for some
common suppliers soon.

> i spent hours and hours just counting all tyhe

The nice thing about an essentially digital project is that there aren't
that many different values of component - only about 4 or 5 different
resistor values and maybe 3 or 4 caps.
Not offering the full kit is a good way to keep the cost down, especially
since so many are being shipped abroad - import duty can add significantly
to the cost. You're much more likely to be hit with tax if the item being
shipped is above a certain price. Hopefully not too many people will be
stung for duty on the PCB/CPU kits.

> how much is the pcb and parts list running.

PCB/CPU kits were 60 ukp in the first run, but the price will go up in the
second run, as I was taking into account the beta status of the software.
I'm yet to add up the total of the rest of the parts, but it's roughly 100
ukp. Still very cheap for what it is though !

> do you have templates for the 2 housings?

I have Schaeffer front panel designer files for both, but the desktop
version file is just for use as a printed-out template for centre punching
the holes.
I'll post these before too long !

> what inspired your task??

You'll find the background in the p3-history.txt file in the Yahoo group
files section.

Cheers,
Colin f

Some new demo mp3s

2003-07-11 by Paul Nagle

Well guys, had a "relaxing" afternoon and improvised these new pieces
on the P3, courtesy of the indispensible "Part Copy" command.

Thanks Colin!!

It's just the P3 driving a Novation Nova with some Vermona PerFourmer
in there for good measure. Not high art, well the high is right....
did I do that hilarious quip last week, around this time?

Enjoy,

Paul

This is so much easier than coming up with demo tracks myself ;-)
Thanks Paul !

Uh, my head.... I spose I should go listen to them myself now and
check them for "frightening strangeness"....

But the P3 passes my vital "can I operate it when stoned?" test. It's
surprisingly fast to navigate around and I really feel I could
improvise the sequencer parts for an entire gig now with no fear.

Re: cases..

2003-07-12 by Ravi Ivan Sharma

Hi,

Just joined the list. Looks like I missed the first boat. But I will
be on the second one for sure! I am in NYC. If there is anything I
can do to help the process, just let me know.

I want to put one of these next to my notron and see how they get on!

After reading this post, and listening to *all* the great mp3s, I am
totally sold on the P3. And I promise to perform with it.
