Realtime record

Realtime record

2004-06-05 by Boele Gerkes

Trying this for the first time I do not understand how it works...

First of all: HOW to set this up?

I have Logic started up, the Andromeda and the P3.
A6 in and out is on port 1 of the midi interface
P3 in and out is on port 2 of the midi interface.

A6 is set to local control off and a single program.

All simply huh? But then what?

If I select the A6 as miditrack, the notes that I play on the keyboard won't be
send to the P3
If I select the P3 as miditrack, the notes that I play on the keyboard won't be
send to the soundengine of the the A6.
CONFUSED!

Hey man, it's Saturday afternoon and I'm utterly caned.

So your email looks terribly complicated to me. Eliminate the computer
entirely is my philosophy....

To record into the P3.

Connect a keyboard's MIDI Out to the P3's In. To record into a pattern
go into Pattern Edit. Hit record. Play some notes. You can tell stuff
is recorded cos steps light up. If they don't, check the ndub settings
or whatever. Can't remember, did I mention it was Saturday afternoon?

Anyway, you can switch thru on or off from the main record screen.

Record away....

Wheeeeeeeeeee

Thanks Gene!

Yes, I figured out that the P3 wants to be used as a stand alone
sequencer when using it that way (or in arp mode).
That's more for live usage. But it still are great options!

Environments in Logic? Give me a break! I just started working with
Logic :-)))))
But as I read about it, one can do a lot with it huh?

Back to the P3 though!

And thanks for the reply on you free saturday afternoon :-) (I guess)

Re: [analogue-sequencer] Realtime record

2004-06-05 by Gene Schwartz

Off the top of my head, there would be several ways to accomplish it
(including Paul's). You could put the Andromeda on 'local on', and choose
the p3 midi track in Logic. So, you'd hear the Andromeda, and the MIDI would
still go through the p3 midi track in logic to the p3.

You could also set up an instrument in Logic's environment so that both the
p3 AND the Andromeda receives the information, and leave the Andromeda in
local off mode.

In my experience working with Logic and a hardware sequencer - not the p3-
simultaneously, you keep on running into issues if you are using logic as an
intermediary between the synths. After you record a track on the p3, then
you have to send it back through Logic to the Andromeda on the correct
channel. But then what if you simultaneously want to record again onto
another track of the p3, and control other stuff through Logic. It starts
getting complicated. I eventually simplified and removed Logic as
intermediary and it went a lot more simply.

oh, it's still pretty early in the morning here...was just having my morning
coffee.

While Logic is quite a powerful program, I came to the conclusion that
unless you use the Logic and hardware sequencer together only for syncing,
it just gets way too complicated.
