P3 v3.963

P3 v3.963

2004-07-18 by colinfraser_com

Folks,

v3.963 (in files now) adds a few small things...

The note range covered by the knobs in pattern edit is now
configurable for any base note and four different ranges.
You'll find 'note rng' in the pattern edit softkeys between 'aux
conf' and 'Apply FTS'. Press the key alone to set the bottom note
for note entry, and FUNC+<note rng> to select the range.
If you install this build and find you can't enter notes - it's
probably because you have not set this new option.

Next addition is a display of the steps remaining in the current
gbar. Paul Nagle asked for this to help remind him when he's
supposed to be moving on to the next bit. Expect shorter gigs from
Paul in future.
Hold the upper knob mode key in play mode to show this.
The second mode LED option in play mode has changed to a gbar count
too - press step mode to switch from VU mode. Mr Nagle wasn't keen
on the binary countdown, but I quite like it...

Last addition is an 'X' in the sysex recv display to show there was
at least one error in the received dump. This makes it possible to
verify a P3 dump by sending it back to the P3 - if you see an 'X'
during receive, the dump may have errors.
I put this in so I could check whether a sysex dump from one P3 to
another would work OK, which it seems to do nicely.

Cheers,
Colin f

Hi,

I have installed this, I tried this I changed the base note to all possible settings
but it doesn?l limit the highest note as in the MAQ.

I thought it was to limit the octaves to a 1 to 5 octaves maximum but in options
to 1 to five instead of manually choose the maximum key wich is a bit
confusing.

It is to this or Am I dreaming awake?

Hi;

Ohh yes it works,but not the way I expected wich is;

In the MAQ when you change the octave max from one to another set it
already sounds "limited" or transported to the limit you selected,PLEASE do=
 it
that way,it´s a nice way to find unexepected sequences.

In your mode changing the limit doesn't change the actual sequence unless
you retouch the pitch knobs.

Please Colin,do my way, just for meeeee.

Thanks;
Hans

hi

i didn't get that with the midi ports, the ribbon cable is like the red one is ground and then cable 1; 2; 3; and so on?
Please help!

i'd prefer to be able to set a range of 1-10 octaves instead of the 4
range possibilities given now. also, when a C is set as base note the
ranges appear to run up for [x] octaves and a bit. i'd prefer them to
run up for full octaves, so with a base-note C (full left) full right
would be a B, or even better, another C. (oops! just had an idea for
a new aux-event; invert note range :-))

...scared the crap out of me the first time i hit step-mode; i
thought there was something fried in my P3...could you please please
change this back, or at least add the former beat-count mode as
another option? as that was my way of knowing when to change parts
and the new binary mode is confusing as hell...give it a try with a
global bar of 32 to see what i mean.

o and i've added a rather nice picture of my P3's & Nord Mod in the
dark to the foto section..

The ADC input has a range of 7 bits - thats 0 to 127.
The ranges 1 to 4 just shift the bits right, so the ranges are 128, 64,
32, 16.
The calculation to make it fit exact octave ranges is harder ;-)

I'll add it back but leave binary count as a third option. I really like
it.
Does no-one count in binary ? Each bit just toggles at half the rate of
the previous one. It's dead easy...

Nice, but needing a couple more PLEDs I think ;-)
I'll post a photo of Gert's finished big one, once he's got it.
