Can't start my P3

Can't start my P3

2004-09-23 by robert_holmstrom

Hello,

I just finished my P3 and I can't get it to boot. First time I
powered it up it did a small flash show and ended up with all lights
on the step row on. Then I remembered I had read somewhere that a
conbination of keys had to be held down the first time I power it up.
I checked the manual and tried to hold down F1 and step 7 but nothing
happened (the same sequence was played again and stopped at all
lights on). I tried again and now something happened... the lightshow
didn't start and just two leds were lit, the "tie" and "x".

I haven't seen any text in the display yet.

ANybody who can help me?

THanks

Robert

the light activity you describe looks to be consistent with the start-up
sequence followed by the standard first boot freakout (sounds like a song
title!). one problem you could be having is with the keypad... check your
soldering at the keypad switches, both cable terminals, and at the chip
on the main board that is connected to the keypad cable terminal (looking
at the board from the top, it's the first chip to the left of the
terminal... i think... check colin's schematics to make sure).

hmmm, you should've, even in the freakout. use colin's schematics to find
out which chip is powering the lcd jack and then check your soldering
there. it sounds more likely to me though that the cable may be the wrong
way round... because the lcd isn't getting any power. the red stripe
should always be to the right of the notch in the cable headers and the
terminal on the main board... double check your soldering into the lcd
module as well, and where things are soldered to... are you using the
PLED module or an LCD?

caveat: i am an electronics idiot. all i've said i learned with my own P3
trials and tribulations, courtesy of colin and others on the list. :)

bleep.
out.
