Yes, I knew that it is only possible to edit one at once... but Can I jump
in the fly from one to another?
In the MAQ you just have to change the row and ... done.

You have to save the pattern on one track before you can edit a
pattern on another. So you save your pattern which takes you back to
the main track view. Then you edit another. I can't think of another
way to phrase it, sorry.

If you like you can record via MIDI input directly from track view;
hold down record and the track number. To jump to another, select
another track. That way you don't have to go into the edit screen at
all. Does that help?

The MAQ has just three rows so comparisons, while interesting, can
only be taken so far. They are different machines. If you have both,
you are lucky.

If I understand correctly this means that you can't just switch between
editing of different tracks whilst playing without saving. How much of a
problem is when using the P3 in a live situation?

It's not a 'problem' as such because that's how it works. Like
anything else, you try to exploit it in your own way.

Personally, I find it lends a more organic nature to my work because
each time I start, things are slightly different (unless I reload the
sysex). Actually, this is one thing I do when preparing for a gig
where my musical partner requires the same start-off point each time.
I send the sysex to my other P3. Then at the end of the session, I
just send it back. That way I can run amok - but the next time I play
the same stuff, I might choose to go in a different direction. I'm
building up a repertoire of actual songs thanks to the bank transfer
program thingy. In fact, I was thinking how cool it would be if this
program could name songs and they appeared in the P3 display...

Of course, having enough edit buffers to mess with an entire bank then
only confirm you want to save all the changes when you load a new one
was, as you probably expect, a main request for the P3.5... 8-)

Let's see what happens eh?
