P3 received : )

P3 received : )

2004-11-24 by darkstr1746@comcast.net

I just love it when i hit the wrong button and my empty e-mail goes into cyberville.
Anyway, got my P3 the other day and boy is it a beauty. Thanks Colin!
Being of the "i'm too cool for manuals" school. i dove right in. Uh huh......yea, i'm an idiot. I don't have much of a working knowledge of midi to begin with, so i guess it's time to crack the book. Right off, what i don't understand is the setting of the basic midi channel per track or or anything else. On the select channel page where it says
"select channel" then (trk=1) ...what am i missing here? the number givin is the track #. does pressing the track button change the channel?? so pressing button #1 changes the track midi channel to 1? If not, can someone say this another way? i'm not groking this to well. Is the P3 a blank slate that you have to enter note info for it to fire off anything?. Eager to get something going right off, i just plugged the thing into my Proteus ( midi channel 1), set the scale to C major and hit run. It runs alright, but none of the modules that i'v plugged into it register any midi information being received. that was a couple of hours ago and i'm still drawing blanks here. I know i'm real dense and i'm still turning pages in the manual so i still might have some luck later on tonight, but............. can anyone give me a swift kick in the arse here and bootload me into reality? LMAO!!!
kind regards

P3 does come empty. It's not some Romahorg Groovebox, providing you
with1000 patterns of preset 'inspiration' ;-)
I may load over-writable default patterns at some point, to go with
tutorials. Check out the getting started guide:
http://www.p3sequencer.com/p3-getting-started.txt
and Paul Nagle's P3UserGuide.pdf in the Yahoo files section:
http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/analogue-
sequencer/files/P3UserGuide.pdf
(watch for wrap)
Don't be afraid to ask questions.

Cheers,

Hi John,

Welcome to the club! I was in exactly the same situation a couple of months
ago. I'm still sort of a newbie on P3-use, but I think I might know the
answers to your questions.

1. The reason you don't hear anything is indeed that there are no gates set.
Keep the Play/edit button pressed, and press the first track button. You
will now see that all the lights of the parts/tracks are out. Press some
knobs, be sure to press RUN, and voila.

2. Changing MIDI channels. Keep the F-button below the MIDI-channel option
pressed and press the track/part number you want it to be set on.

Oh, and RTFM!

hehehehe.....

Have fun!

;-)
