>Does anyone find the 'new look' of Yahoo groups and improvement on the >old one ? >Looks pretty crap to me. Hear, hear :-( So I say to myself, "Be resilient, don't be averse to change." But I see how they're squeezing in more ads, and making it more difficult to see at a glance how a group is set up if you are thinking about signing up for a new one. >I do wonder if anyone discovers P3 by searching through Yahoo groups - >maybe not a significant number It seems to me that people first hear about P3 on other lists/groups/forums. I drop in an out of 50 Yahoo groups and see it happen all the time. People look for this group after hearing from others that it's here. Be sure, if you change your group's format, that you have a system in place that lets people do the least amount of work possible to participate. Having archives is immensely valuable, as is receiving everything in digest email format, for a lot of people who can only find time to catch up periodically. So many other gear lists are on Yahoo that it's easy for gearheads to manage multiple subscriptions in one place. Hosting a mailing list on a private server is the best (IMO) alternative way to go. Paul Maddox kindly set up a Mailman-based test system for SynthSights, in order to show me how the whole thing works from the admin's point of view. It's slick as a whistle. The co-mods and I decided nonetheless to stick with Yahoo for the time being, simply because it's a known quantity to so many people these days. The private server-based list remains an option if we get too annoyed at Yahoo. There are Yahoo-exit strategies whereby one can keep a group "alive" in order to have its description point searchers to your new digs. I'm not *quite* there yet. And (sigh) the price is right. --Amanda SynthSights! "it's not about the gear" Come join us!
