P3 Sysex ID Patch

P3 Sysex ID Patch

2005-04-07 by colinfraser_com

Folks,

If you have one of the new production P3s or kits, or you have
already upgraded the bootloader on your older P3 to take the new
style firmware images (v3.1.xxx), you will need to patch your
bootloader to accept future updates.
The patch updates the P3 bootloader with the new Sysex manufacturer
ID for Sequentix Music Systems, replacing the rather naughty string
of my initials previously used.

The patch file is called SysxIDPatch.syx, and a text file
accompanies it with instructions on how to apply it. Essentially you
just load it as a new firmware image, boot it once, then you can
install the latest build, v3.1.002, which is also in the files
section now.
Note that if you're using P3Tools to apply the update, you'll need
to use the new version to install the latest firmware build, so it
might be an idea to hold off until Dave has posted the version with
the new sysex ID handling.

If you have not already updated the bootloader on your older P3, the
update program now includes the new sysex ID code so doesn't need
patched after installation.

This should be the last change needed to the bootloader, and keeps
me legal with the nice people at the MMA. Sorry for any
inconvenience...

v3.1.002 also switches to the new sysex ID for pattern dumps,
although it will accept dumps with the old-style header, so your
saved patterns do not need converted.

I hope this all makes sense - any questions, just give me a shout.

Cheers,
Colin f

hi Colin,

does this mean i can't use P3tools to swap around patterns parts &
banks if i have the latest FW-version, i.e. with the sysx-ID thingie?
or at least, not until Dave has a new P3tools-build?

I have a test build that works with the new ID, but Dave hasn't posted it
publically yet.
Unfortunately he's drinking beer in the Spanish sun for the time being...
If you've already done the update, and you're stuck for P3Tooling, I don't
suppose he'd mind if I sent you the test build.

Be my guest.

I do have an even newer build that is compatible with old and new
firmware.
I was also just in the middle of testing a feature that displayed
the FTS settings for the part/playlists.
When I finish the testing after I get back off holiday I´ll post it
on the group.
