End-cheek update

End-cheek update

2005-04-26 by colinfraser_com

Folks,

The walnut end-cheeks arrived, but are being returned so the factory
can apply lacquer to all sides. Someone assumed the inside faces
didn't need it.
I've had one set finished on the inside, which you can see in the new
animated gif on the group home page, and P3 web site.

Cheers,

larger flash ROM?

2005-04-26 by Julian

Colin,

From your website:

" Most recently, the Atmel AT89C51ED2 is being used, since the Temic part was discontinued. This has given another clock speed increase, and larger flash ROM."

Does this meen that theres more rom to implament features?

And, if so, im guessing that youll use it.

And then im wondering about older macines...

Julian

It works out there's 1k more useable ROM space than the older CPU.

I'll use it if I need to. Fortunately SDCC 2.4 (the C compiler I use to
build to P3 firmware) produces noticably more efficient code than the
previous version. The current P3 test build is at 469 pages of a possible
492 in the original CPU, or 500 in the newer (pages being 128 bytes). So
there's plenty room for the time being.
The current release build is smaller than the test build too - I'm working
on a simplified playlist edit mode, and transmission of controller messages
from the knobs in play mode.

If it comes to the point where the code size exceeds the capacity of the
older CPU, and someone wants to upgrade, I'll be happy to supply a CPU
upgrade for minimal cost.

Cheers,
Colin f

Very pretty - and having seen the production model in the flesh, so to
speak, I must say this baby looks as well as it performs. Trouble is
can I justify a *third* one?

8-)

Nice one man and good luck with it!

That's more than fair! Thanks in advance...
