A nice synth indeed in honor of Moog even though the late great Bob
Moog wasnt the designer . . that filter *sigh* sounds nice.
Now i am looking forward to the drive to Pomona and snatching a P3.
what ive noticed about the Memrymoog. . the midi timing is pretty
sloppy.
is this due to the z80 cpu?
even the internal arpeggiator is very loose when using the sync input ,
sync'd w/ the 909 rimshot. It appears to be way behind & stumbly. hmm
old midi? >>
this week I hooked up one of my p3's to my memorymoog.
long story.... but I'd intended to be doing something moog-related, & all
sorts of things went wrong.
an old groove midi-cv box I use for two prodigies mysteriously packed up
early in the session.
the midi-jack on one of my sources was next, stuck on some supersonic note.
so I jammed the midi cable into the memorymoog to see how it would handle a bit
of polyphonic sequencing.
for the first time ever, it was out of tune, & the autotune was returning
"4-tuned" which is bad.
after quite a bit of poking around in the diagnostics pages, I got the beast
behaving again ("6-tuned"- hooray)
then I went for a cup of tea & discovered that one of my moog mugs has a
broken handle.
[sigh]
but the point is, my memorymoog responds to midi just like it was a
supernova. it's a LAMM, is why. I think rudi linhard replaces the whole cpu board, or
at least upgrades it. the code running in there is all different too. the
arpeggiator works fine even when externally clocked, & rudi's provided a way to
stop the moog scanning it's own pots in case an original m/m user needs even more
reassurance that the cpu is paying attention.
the polyphonic sequencing was excellent fun, btw.
mine originally had a kenton retrofit onto the standard cpu; rudi replaced
all this with his own design, which took six years of working out.
the m/m is a high-maintenance synth even with the LAMM mods, but it's worth
it.
next weekend I hope to be fixing up my two cheetah ms6's with kris maad's
upgrades.
