Oops... I'm aware of a similar problem with paste. The reason is that I've started using spare space in the length values to store the direction. I forgot to fix the shift and paste functions so that they only act on the lower nybble of the length values - you'll probably find that if you shift what was the first note back to step one, the direction will return to what it was.
