P3 Song Pointer?

P3 Song Pointer?

2007-04-27 by jackson120875

Hi Folks,

Does P3 have MIDI song pointer recognition at all? If so, in which
firmware revisions and how do you activate it?

Currently I'm limited to Start, Stop and Continue, very frustrating
when trying to sync things cos I ofter have to play the song from the
beginning each time!!!!

Cheers,

James J

It wouldn't really make much sense in a step sequencer or any device
without a linear song mode of some kind.

P3 doesn't respond to SPP because it doesn't have a linear song structure.
I thought about having jump to a point inside the gbar limit based on a
modulus of the absolute bar number given by SPP, but never really decided
whether this would be useful or not.
I assume you're syncing a P3 to an external sequencer - does the external
sequencer not allow you to continue from the start of the nearest bar ?

No song position information is recognised or outputed.

I too would still like to see some implamentation of positional information, but colin has explained to me on occasion before why
its not present.
(I cant remember word for word, but itll be in the archive somewhere)

Well, given that the P3 has a kind-of song mode (via playlists) it
would make sense if it were to track SPP, but I don't think it's
personally worth the effort or code space; if the software sequencer
is sync master then one can do the sums in one's head to work out
what bar to start from such that the P3 is in the correct phase for
the track.

(Another nice-to-have P3 sequencer feature might be a configuration
such that, if the P3 is master clock, it sends a SPP for a specific
bar, rather than a START. Then one could work on specific parts of
one's composition with the P3 in charge. But again, I don't think the
lack of such is a show-stopper. It's never stopped any of MY shows...)
