V4 workflow request

2007-07-28 by pixmusik

thanks Paul for your last reply about drum programming. I've been
working with it more tonight and I couldn't stop noticing how it'd be
great to be able to change tracks and control the track length (#
bars) from within the REC menu. I think changing tracks would pose a
problem for the way saving tracks is implemented but I think it'd
increase the speed and flow of building patterns using kbd input (I
like to use kbd input to generate the initial idea and then tweak from
there)

controlling the number of bars would also be useful because then you'd
have full control of the P3 as a "regular" midi sequencer when
starting with a blank bank. Choose track, define # of bars, record,
change track...etc. Would be really fast to work this way.

Is this already possible and I lost it in the manual, or Colin if not,
do you think this would be easy to implement in the future?

I already planned to have play mode record on empty patterns prompt for a
length of pattern.
It could be useful to then be able to change the length of pattern from
there, though you don't have the same undo as you have in pattern edit mode.

There are some other changes I want to play with first though, things which
will not be obvious to the end user, but which will restore some useful
functionality from v3, and potentially also reduce the code size a bit.
Once I've done that, I look at the play mode record stuff.
