BTempo display and update (v4b25)

BTempo display and update (v4b25)

2008-01-04 by Nick Rothwell

OK, so I have BTempo locked, running at, oh, 120. The display says
120. The P3 puts out 120.

I then twiddle the tempo knob. The "Manual" value changes, but the
BTempo value stays at 120.

I then hit the BTempo function key (F3) and I'm in BTempo off.
Outgoing tempo doesn't change.

I hit it again, and I'm in BTempo 172 (picked up from the tempo
knob). But the P3 is still running at 120. I twiddle the knob, and
BTempo is shown as 120. I stop twiddling the knob, and it's shown as
172.

I don't remember exactly how this worked in earlier V4 betas, but
this doesn't quite seem right...

It's not right - the manual tempo should be activated as soon as you turn
off the locked btempo.
I've fixed it here, and it'll appear in the next beta upload.
If you need this fix now, drop me a mail.

Ah, yes: I think that arrived in the very last of the V3 releases
(albeit with slightly less visual feedback).

No worries: I can wait until you're ready to package up a release.

Hi Colin,
I was just wondering if you're ever going to do another v3 update, or
have you abandoned v3 completely in favour of v4?

I've made a couple of updates to v3 since v4 appeared, and fixed a couple of
bugs that appear in both, but I don't really have the time to add anything
major, and I also find it very hard to use v3 now - it takes a while to
remember how all the playlist stuff works.
If there's something specific you need, I'm open to begging ;-)

Hi Colin,
If your open to Begging, I would love a Midi Program Change to switch
"Parts" and "Banks".
If I have to take it on only 1 OS, it woud be V4, but I'll take it on v4
and v3, as I do still
have a liking for Playlists. I seem to come up with completely differnt
tracks when I'm v3
vs v4....

Cheers,
Dave

With remote control enabled, a program change message already switches part,
and allows you to specify a part chain length.

I could change it to select a bank and part number, but then there would be
no way to select a chain.
If anyone is using program change messages this way already, they might be
upset if I break it...

bank select and part select remote issue

2008-01-29 by DB

Hi Colin,
Well, I definitely don't want you to break it for other users!

I figured that you might have used Midi CC "0" instead as that stands
for Bank Select instead of 17.
But I didn't know that you had added the Part select with the Program
Change yet, so I'm
quite happy to have both Bank Change and Part Select remotely now!

I don't know if this is possible, but is there a way to configure the
P3, so that
when it receives the Midi CC 17 program change request, that it switches the
bank instantly? Right now it has the same behaviour as when I use the
Bank Select
on the P3 itself. Which is that it waits until the next bar to switch
banks.

What I'm trying to do, is when I'm using my MPC which is the Master, I
hit "next sequence"
and select a sequence, at the end of it's loop, it will switch it's
sequence and that next
sequence will have the P3 Bank Change Midi CC embedded in the
sequence, so what happens now, is the MPC switches sequences, and
immediately sends
the Midi CC of 17 and value of the Bank that I want, but it doesn't
switch the P3 until the
next bar. Since my MPC sends out a number of different Program Changes
to the various
hardware, I end up hearing the older sequence playing the synth patches
for the new song.
It can be quite comical :) But I think any other sequencer that is
sending a Bank Change
request will see this behaviour unless they are both stopped.

Does anybody else use an external sequence to switch P3 banks, with
their sequence switches, and
how do you work around this? My MPC has an option to do this, perform
an immediate sequence switch
if a remote request is sent via a config option, so I may just reverse
everything around and have the
P3 as the master and use it's Program Change option to switch the MPC's
which will then switch the rest of the
equipment, but the current reasoning for my current setup, is that I can
shut the P3 down and
upload it with sysex while the rest of the setup is still going. This
was more of a need before my
memory upgrade came :) But I still tend to do 1 Song a Bank..... so if
I want to do more then 16 songs
with the P3, then I would have to shutdown the entire setup to do the P3
Sysex upload. I think that
I'll probably just end up trying to time switching the bank and then the
mpc sequence manually, with the
P3 switch done the bar before the MPC switches its sequence.... Since
switching banks is a two handed
option on the P3 itself, I may use the 16 buttons on my BCR2000
programmed to switch the P3 banks,
so I can have a hand on the MPC's pads to switch it's sequence and a
hand on the BCR2000 to switch the
P3's sequence.

I'm only wanting this behaviour for remote switching of banks.....FYI.

If it's not an option (both code space and logically), I understand.

Thanks,
Dave
