display failure

display failure

2008-02-06 by Jeff Kunzelman

I think I recall this is an issue for many people. My green display
started fading and eventually turned into a deep void. Everything else
seems to work fine as designed.

Isn't there a blue screen replacement?

Is there some sort of maintenance bot or can someone post details on
the maintenance procedure?

Not quite 'many' people, but far more than there should have been.
The PLED displays of the type used in P3 are no longer available after the
makers abandoned the process used.
I have to wonder if reliability was a factor...

There are details on the installation of a replacement LCD module here:
http://www.sequentix.com/sq_lcd.htm

Drop me a mail privately, and I can arrange to get a module to you under
warranty.

There are no PLEDs, but you can get an LCD module with exactly the same
dimensions and interface connections.
Details of installation are here:
http://www.sequentix.com/sq_lcd.htm

If you really dont like LCD, you can get VFD 16x2 displays that are also LCD
interface compatible from Noritake.
They cost around 40 ukp each.

These are untested in a P3, but should work.
