(Another) Black Screen of Death

(Another) Black Screen of Death

2009-09-06 by timetrippad

Chalk up another P3 in the "I'm Blind" column. (Serial #1117, if you really want to know)

Sadly, I lack the equipment and skills necessary to fit the replacement. Well, adding the resistor is the only actual problem.

And with the CircleTron just days away (right?), I'm debating over trying to fix it by getting help from elsewhere for the soldering, or selling it to someone willing to make the repairs themselves.

So, I'm going to test the waters. Anyone want a display-less P3 for...let's say $500? Everything else works (I think!). I live in Michigan, U.S.A.

Thanks everyone! (except Colin. Way to select quality parts.)

(Just kidding Colin.)

If its a pre-built P3 the new screen doesn't need any soldering of a
resistor - its just some of the older models that need this AFAIK..

The instructions on the Sequentix website say that "production" P3's don't have it, but I guess I'll have to pop it open and take a look.

Production P3s are not fitted with the LCD resistor - the value of the
resistor depends on the current supply requirement of the LCD module used.
The LCDs I supply use 47 ohms, but if you are installing a display you
source yourself, you should check the datasheet for the right resistor value
for a 5 volt supply to make sure you don't burn the backlight out or have it
too dim.
