Dead P3 please help!

Dead P3 please help!

2009-12-20 by mathieu16682002

Hello,
My unit showed a blank screen last time I switched it on. It was the old display so I installed the new blue lcd but it was the same: the screen lights up but shows nothing.
I tried the "P3 resurection" tutorial I found here but it didn't work so I tried a new firmware installation (with the blank screen) pressing func+page at start up then f3 and send the "p3-bootloader-v3.3-AT" sysex..my bad..since then there's not even a single led lighting up except the 8 vertical leds at the right of the unit when I power the P3 on.
My biggest problem is I asked a professional in order to get it serviced but being he doesn't have any technical documentation about the P3 he said he couldn't do it.
I wondered if such technical documentation was available or maybe someone could tell me where I could get my P3 repaired.

Thanks

Did you adjust the contrast after fitting the new display ?
Did the LEDs light up as normal after you had th new display in, but before
you installed the bootloader update ?
If so, you probably just need to adjust the contrast, then re-install the
main P3 code instead of the bootloader update.
The update does not light any LEDs, it only shows text on the display.
The contrast trimmer is next to the LCD connector on the mainboard.
It should be at roughly half-past-two for an LCD display.

Thank you Colin, I'm going to try this tomorow and tell you since I don't have the P3 at home right now. I hope it's just that..I recently bought the P3 used and I'm not familiar with the unit, it's a fantastic instrument for sure.

Much Thanks
Mathieu

I replaced the PLED on my unit only last week (with an LCD that i had knocking about - not the blue kit from colin) and, after a moment of head scratching, i remembered the contrast trimmer, and, sure enough, writing appeared.

Incidently, the LCD i used was a varitronix (or however you spell it) one, and needed the contrast turned almost right to one end of the range.

Hello Colin,
I've followed your instructions and my P3 came back to life :)
Thank you very much, I was so scared really.

Happy new year, the best for you and Sequentix

Mathieu
