I saw some elsewhere that annoyed me because they didn't know what they're talking about and were just me-too-ing. Funny thing--a visitor to my studio was studying Octopus' front panel, and in telling him about it I commented, "You see, this whole thing IS a display". There was a little whole-body "whoa" reaction as that sank in--a literal example of "taken aback". Having to remember the secret handshakes to operate a machine with no display is not for everybody. I didn't warm up to the Latronic Notron which is so beloved by some, so I guess you just have to stumble on a combination of form and features that works for you. I've seen some displays that I hate, with cryptic abbreviations or "unique" terms. A display method should require the least brain processing and the fewest eye movements possible while providing information. genoQs asked if I would help rewrite the manual for Octopus, but left the ball in my court, which is a little more volunteering than I'm good for. That's the same problem people will have working on their OS--it means tackling a big thing from scratch, when a usable version already exists. I hope that one of these days someone will find it an irresistible project. Say!! That's what Colin can do after Cirklon is put to bed--work on Octopus/Nemo, and sell it to us! :-D I hope Colin takes the time to do up a good manual for Cirklon--even if the balance sheet dictates that we have to print it ourselves--in a format where pages can be inserted or added. I need to sit away from the computer and ponder a bunch of dead trees (because I flip back and forth as questions come to mind) to become acquainted with new gear. -- Amanda *_ www.cikira.com |_) _ _||\/| _ _ ._ www.redmoon-music.com | \(/_(_|| |(_)(_)| | ~~~ evolutionary electronica
