the eight tracks of the P3 can be freely assigned to any of the 16 midi channels. I often use two or more tracks on the same channel for switcheroo action.
depending what version of the o/s you are running, the "part" switches (not to be confused with the banks) will select different combinations of patterns or else (v3 & earlier) pattern playlists.
