Analogue systems

I'll try to be more clear this time.

I'm assuming that you are connecting your AS modules to a Doepfer 
power supply bus board. (If this is incorrect, please ignore 
everything else I say.) 

1.You must get Doepfer adapter cables.  These are available from AS.  
Apparently, there are different adapter cables for different modules, 
so you must be sure to get the correct adapter cable.

2.  You have to remove the original AS cables and replace them with 
the Doepfer cables.  To correctly orient the cables in the sockets on 
the PC boards, take note of the marking on the adapter cable that 
says "0 v." and position the cable so that marking lines up with 
the "0 v." marking on the AS module's PC board. (In the case of my 
RS90s, this results in the wire pointing towards the front panel as 
it leave the module, and the red line poiting toward the top of the 
module)

3.  Plug the adapter cable into the Doepfer bus board with the red 
line oriented toward the bottom of the bus board, just as it is when 
connecting a Doepfer module.  (in the case of my RS90s, RS100 and 
RS60s, the red line is at the top of the cable when it leaves the 
module, so it must be twisted 180 degrees to be fitted to the Doepfer 
bus board properly oriented with the red line at the bottom.) 

4.  Turn on the power supply.  If it appears that your other modules 
are not working (ie, no blinking lights, etc.)turn off the power 
IMMEDIATELY, and check all steps again.  A loss of power usually 
means that something is connected wrong.  However, if corrected very 
quickly, you may noty cause any damage.  (it happened to me, and 
everything still worked fine after the problem was corrected.)

An aside:  There are two problems with connecting AS modules to a 
Doepfer system: One is that you end up with a 1/2 hp space in between 
the Doepfer and AS modules.  I use several Doepfer portable cabinets, 
which have 1hp of extra space space that is usually covered with a 
1hp blank panel.  So, by putting several AS modules in the cabinet, I 
simply lose this 1hp space.  This could be a bigger problem in other 
rack.  

The second problem is a difference in design philosophy.  Doepfer 
modules almost always have attenuators on the CV inputs.  AS modules 
often do not, but often have attenuators on the CV outputs.  So, to 
do waveform modulation on my RS90s from a Doepfer LFO or EG, I need 
attenuators somewhere in the signal path.

I'm anxiously awaiting the release of Peter Grenaders fabulous 
sounding "gizmotron" to help rectify this situation.  Right now, I'm 
using pots wired to 1/8" jacks.  Looks terrible, but works.  (of 
course, would look better if I mounted them on a panel)
