Analogue systems

hey Bryan, your help on this topic has been fantastic, thank you so 
very much for taking the time to help me, and other ondes enthuesists 
(hmmm did i spell that right, prob not..). 

yes i have heard the tonal qualities that you were mentioning, i have 
downloaded many samples of real ondes and the tonal changes are quite 
unique. But you will be glad to know that i did notice these tonal 
differences you spoke of on your sample. your sample, although rough, 
has become a frequent item on my playlist. I was concerned that the 
sounds, that i identify with with ondes martenot would be missing, 
and the french connection would become a costly gimmick. But your 
demonstration has displayed that the French connection does infact 
quite accuratly replicate the sound of the ondes, well i liked what i 
heard anyway. 

Its interesting to note that Ms. Loriod's book notes that the ondes 
is saw wave fundamental, as i have always thought sine. but its that 
deep saw-esque sound that i really like on the ondes, which was 
actually played on your sample, the bit when you go from playing the 
keys, to playing the ring controller, those swoops. 
I thought the ondes was sine fundamental because those high pitched 
notes really sound rounded and much like a high sine wave, as opposed 
to the rough saw wave. but im sure this is covered in Loriod's book.

With a cello, for example, you can also vary the pressure on the 
bow.  Doing so gives the instrument a totally different sound.  Even 
a french horn, my instrument, can change the nature of the sound with 
the hand in the bell, tongue technique and air force.  All of this 
can be done within one note.  With the reverb unit I use, the nature 
of the sound does change given the manipulation of the volume button 
in the left hand.  It allows me to shape a note with timbre and well 
as volume.   The nature of the sound changes if I give a slight kick 
in volume somewhere in the note.  The effect can be different 
depending where in the note you do it.  Don't expect too much because 
the effect is subtle, but I tried to do some of that in the sample I 
have online and at least I hear a difference.
