POOF! Up in smoke...

2005-06-08 by ben vehorn

Powered up my Asys system per usual today and...
POOF!
I quickly powered off my case and unplugged it, then removed all the
modules to look.
The smoke came from the comb filter, which now has a nicely toasted
capacitor at C14 on the PCB. Didn't try to re-power it up.
I plugged the remaining modules in one by one to test them and my
reverb/chorus and 2 gate delay modules appear to be gone too. The
-12v fuse on the left side of the power distribution board is blown.
Grrrrr.... I'm using an RS15 case that I purchased new less than 2
months ago. Nothing was plugged in incorrectly and all the pins were
lined up fine.
I'm guessing there was some sort of short, though I have no idea what
caused it. Is this a common issue with the RS15?
At least my PSG and sequencer seem to have survived...
