Well, I think I figured out the cause of this.
I had installed a Doepfer a-127 triple filter in the case last week and
had been using everything together with no problems.
The soldering points for the pins on one of the circuit boards for the
Doepfer come very close to the lip of the RS15 when installed. I have
been re-installing and testing modules this morning and noticed that if
I push in on the Doepfer at all, the circuit board touches the lip of
the RS15 and the power to my PSG is cut! So I'm guessing that the
module touched the case somehow and shorted out the system, though I'm
not sure why it blew up modules in the process.
So the root of the fault appears to be an incompatibility between the
case and this particular Doepfer module (I haven't installed it in this
case before, but I also have a Doepfer quad EG with a similar design
that would likely behave the same).
A word of practical advice... you might not want to use these modules
in an RS15...
